He obtained his Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering and Master of Medical Physics from the Universiti Malaya. He then completed his PhD at the University of Western Australia in collaboration with Genesis Cancer Care (formerly known as Perth Radiation Oncology). Dr. Ung is a fellow and committee member of Malaysia Association of Medical Physics and Institute of Physics Malaysia (Medical Physics Division). Besides providing medical physics services to his department, Dr. Ung is actively involved in medical physics teaching and research activities. To date, he has authored\/co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed academic journal papers and supervised a total of 13 research PhD and master students to completion. His PhD work revolved around the investigation of uncertainties in fiducial markers tracking during image-guided radiotherapy of prostate cancer.
